Way to start out the week! With a field trip to Mankato and visit the studio where Z99 and other stations are broadcasted/created. We went and visited the facility and at first had a hard time finding it , but eventually we got there and were welcomed by the fantastic "secretary" who did so much more than you would think. We were then taken around the building and shown all of the rooms where they recorded their commercials or spoke live on the radio. They had four stations that were broadcasted from that one location and all the recording rooms were right next to each other. We then went to Perkins and had a delicious meal paid for by the most amazing teacher named Mrs. Brinkman. We then had a long bus ride because we HAD to get back to school before noon. Then we had regular school and practice and all that great stuff. Well that's about it yup! ;)

CHICAGO!!!!! It was so awesome and I just wish we could have trips like this every single weekend #noschool. First off we had an amazing time playing and singing at the MSU campus for two music professors who had great advice and also helped us a lot. For choir I think it was one of the best performances we had and the same goes for band. Sadly throughout our whole trip it was a wee bit chilly, but luckily the hotel/water park that we stayed at was really hot and had a fitness center across the street with about a hundred workout sets and a Basketball Court! The place we stayed at was called Key Lime Cove, had five water slides, a lazy river, and basketball hoops, but the hot tub was only for people 18 and up and they had a really small wave pool. The chlorine made my skin really dry and itchy so I only went swimming once, but since I didn't know that the fitness center was available to us or that it had a basketball court I stayed in my room and hung out with my roommates (Josh and Sam G, Shad). The long bus ride wasn't so bad because we watched Frozen and I had a secret place to sleep between two chairs on the floor. When we got to the hotel it was already 9:30 and we immediately threw our stuff in our rooms and went down to the park and swam. This hotel was so rich, the keycard was actually a memory card thingy attached to our wristbands that you had to swipe in front of a scanner to get into your room. Since it was already two in the morning when anyone even thought about going to sleep I stayed up and watched four or five shows on Netflix called White Collar. The Wifi started going bad around four and since I was going to go with Josh, Mrs. Brinkman, Mrs. Syverson, and some other people to the Fitness Center at five I just stuck it out and played a couple of games. In the morning Josh's alarm went off and I knocked on the rooms of the people who said that they wanted to come and workout with us, but none of them responded or woke up. I went downstairs with Josh and met up with Mrs. Brinkman and Mrs. Syverson and we all walked over to the Fitness Center together. At the Center there were a bunch of old people, but the sad part was that most of them were ripped and a lot of them were benching or lifting more or the same amount as I can. After running, lifting, and finally finding the basketballs I played/shot around and went back to the hotel to get ready to go to Cracker Barrel for our breakfast which was amazing. Since we were such a big group it took a little while to get our food, but there was a game on the table to play and I mastered it by the time our food got there which kept me distracted. Our table finished our food and almost left before the boys at the table next to us even got their food. Before we left I beat Ian Glassic in a game of Checkers and we left to go and explore Chicago. We took a boat ride that involved a lot of wind, cold, and a cranky tour guide. Our guide was a lady of about 30-40 of age who got mad whenever someone stood on the benches and four people did. Lydia, Carter, Sam Grev, and Jared Willaby all stood on the bench. The funny part was that Jared was so sorry and shocked that he even stood on the bench that he sort of froze on top of the bench and got called out by the tour guide who supposedly has 20-15 vision. We saw the building that was in the third Transformer movie and also a parking building that was one of the Batman/Dark Knight movies. Yesterday the Haydn to Hip Hop class -me included- took a trip to the Twin Cities to a place called the HSRA and it was awesome! At first every time we saw someone we hard no idea what to say or do so we just shyly stood in a cluster and didn't really talk to anyone. The first person we met was Tony who is the "Director" of the school and helps everybody out. The two people that our group really got connected to was Alie and MoeCash who really helped us start feeling comfortable at HSRA and also helped us create a song/rap with the help of Jake. Everyone at that high school was kind, said hello, and asked us where we were from. Which is Mountain Lake not Mountain Dew MoeCash. It was really great to see MoeCash perform and also hear many other students at HSRA rap or sing towards the end of the day. After that amazing experience our class went to Hell's Kitchen for dinner and had some delicious food and even better desserts. Sadly we had to ride all the way home on a bus and then wake up in time to make it to school by eight o'clock today. I'll never forget the HSRA and the talented people I met there and I look forward to seeing some of you at our Pop Concert in May. I hope Some of my favorite music is: Eye of the tiger, Don't You, Another One Bites The Dust, Paradise,Take On mMe, Livin' On A Prayer, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Thriller, We Will Rock You, Footloose, I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight, Kiss, Push It, Walk This Way, We Built This City, Ice Ice Baby, I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing, The Final Countdown, Paradise City, I'm Walking On Sunshine, I Wanna Rock, We're Not Gonna Take It, Jukebox Hero, Any Way You Want It. These are all great songs that have been played, sung, or redone by many different artists and are all on youtube, iTunes, or any other place you find awesome music. The 80s was the time of ROCK and everyone who was anybody during this period of time was rocking on the stage and pouring their hearts and soul to give the best show they possibly can. Every man or woman who was on the big stage was a legend in his/her own way and was a hero to everyone who ever wanted to be famous. Their music is still famous, great, and played/sung/performed all over the world and is still AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
Fats Domino is a blue performer and artist of the 1900's. He was born on February 26,1928 in New Orleans, Louisiana and started performing at the age of 14. He was also called Antoine Domino, but his real name is Antoine Domino Jr. and his first language was actually Creole. His music combines "boogie woogie" piano with a New Orleans beat. Some of his famous music is: Blueberry Hill, Walkin' to New Orleans, Blue Monday, and The Fat Man. He actually started to get national fame with the song The Fat Man in 1950. Though he was born and lived during the Blues period of music he is mostly known as a rock n' roll artist and performer. Now to answer some of the questions that Mrs. Brinkman had for our Blue's artist. Though Fats Domino was born and lived during the Blues period he is more famous as a rock'n'roll artist. His Song "The Fat Man" is upbeat and the lyrics talk about how everyone loves him and calls him the fat man because he knows all the places to hang out and have a good time. I think that this song shows that not all the blues and people in this period were sad or depressed; some of them were finding places to have a good time and partying. Whenever Fats is playing he is dancing and moving with the music even on his piano seat. I believe that Mr. Domino valued his life on Earth and tried to make the best of it by sharing his music and energy with a lot of audiences. I think he sang about the Fat Man because that was who he was and it was easy for him to sing about himself because he knew the guy sooooo well. Many Spirituals were designed or composed to be used as both a song for work and also to send messages about when to escape, how to escape, and where to go. The Spiritual No More Auction Block For Me was written as a marching song for African American soldiers during the Civil War and was later used by other slaves after the war. Most of the lyrics are just the slaves or soldiers expressing their desire to never get whipped, sold, or hurt ever again. The main chorus "no more auction block for me" is the plea to never get sold on an auction block again which is where the slaves were "auctioned" off to new slave owners. Here are the rest of the lyrics. . .
No more auction block for me No more, no more No more auction block for me Many thousands gone No more driver's lash for me No more, no more No more driver's lash for me Many thousands gone No more whip lash for me No more, no more No more pint of salt for me Many thousands gone No more auction block for me No more, no more No more auction block for me Many thousands gone Personally I love gospel and "Black" music because of how well almost everyone can sing them. I also like the rhythms and the great beat that they have in all their music. I also think that a lot of their music is very repetitive and that's probably because they were either marching continuously or constantly doing the same job over and over again. Pentatonix does a great remix of the song Little Drummer Boy with multiple solos by everyone in the group including their beat boxer who doesn't usually sing at all. The entire song is done with no instruments, but they do clap and stomp to make it have a great feel to it. I really enjoy this song and hope that everyone who sees this will love it and watch even more Pentatonix videos because they are fantastic! The Straight No Chasers are the group of A capella singing men who make a remix of several Christmas songs in a funny and interesting tune that is fun to listen to and also to watch their faces and how they react to the music. The Straight No Chasers have a lot of other music as well, but this is one of my favorite performances by them.
Beethoven is pretty much the one who started the Romantic period with his music that swooned women and brought others to tears. His music is fantastic and very dramatic as was his life. Other artists branched off of Beethoven's musical magnificance and many of them made amazing pieces that were just as dramatic or even more so. Frederick Chopin was another composer of the Romantic period and was a phenomenal piano master and he was the one that brought the piano into a solo instrument instead of just background music. He is known for his very expressive pieces and how his music is so difficult, but beautifully played. He is widely known as the greatest pianist of all time. Franz Liszt was another great pianist and composer of this period. He is known for swooning women while playing on the stage and they would throw their hankercheifs at him or throw them onto the stage. It is remarkable how he was so good at the piano when he had such massive hands and big fingers to boot. Wilhelm Richard Wagner was most likely the most infamous composer of this time because of his love for Hitler and that he was anti-Semitic , but we now know that though many hated him he was a genius. He expanded the limits of music, made new instruments, changed opera, and increased the size of orchestras. Only the musicians who could play for over 12 hours straight could play his music and even then they had to be fantastic performers. Some of his famous operas are: Rienzi, The Flying Dutchman, Tannhauser, Lohengrin,as well as others. Tchaikovsky is yet another composer and a famous one during the Romantic period. He is Russian and his music is designed to make the listener feel how he felt while he was writing it. He was a homosexual and married to cover it up, but when his marriage failed he struggled again. Tchaikovsky is known for his amazing Ballets which many people know as the title as a lot of Disney film titles. Three of his famous and now most often performed or played ballets are Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker. He is also famous for Marche Slave, Serenade for Strings, and for the Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. Tchaikovsky is now known as the best love composer of this period with his very romantic pieces and moving ballets.
