Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart
Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart also known as just Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a remarkable child. He moved a lot with his father, Leopold as he was in the year 1769-1771 on a trip to Italy. They left Mozart's mother and sister at home and Leopold went to show off his son's abilities as a performer and composer. While in Italy Mozart was accepted into the Accademia Filarmonica. A little later while he was in Rome he listened to Gregorio Allegri's Miserere - which was a closely guarded property of the Vatican- twice and then decided it was so easy that he wrote it out from memory which made it the first unauthorized copy of this piece. While Mozart was in Milan he wrote the opera Mitridate, re di Ponto in 1770 and it was a great success so he wrote a few more operas. While Leopold wanted his son to have a professional appointment in Italy it never happened. Towards the end of Leopold and Mozart's stay at Italy, Mozart wrote the solo motet Exsultate, jubilate, which is still known as one of his most widely performed pieces today. When they returned home in 1773 Mozart got a job as a court musician by the Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo, the ruler of Salzburg. While in Salzburg Mozart composed a bunch of different genres and in 1775 he had a facination with violin concertos and produced five of them in nine months which are the only violin concertos he ever wrote in his career. Though Mozart was having a lot of success in Salzburg he continued to grow dissatisfied and looked for jobs elsewhere, so that he could make operas. He finally left Salzburg in 1777 and while he was unemployed he became friends with members of the best orchestra in Europe at the time and fell in love with Aloysia Weber and he left for Paris in 1778 because he couldn't find any work in Mannheim. After turning down a couple of jobs he wasn't interested in Mozart fell into debt. Then Mozart's mother got sick and died on July 3, 1778 and some think that the reason she died was because his family did not have the funds to pay the doctor and didn't call right away. After turning down a job as a court organist and concertmaster for 450 florins which is worth about $9,000 today and left Paris in September 1778. When he was in Munich he again saw Aloysia who was at that time a famous singer, but wasn't interested in Mozart anymore. :( Mozart went back home on January 15, 1779 and took up a new position, but he still felt discontent with his trip to Salzburg.
